The "MAKANAS" were the ancient spiritual healers of the Chamorro warrior tribes of Guåhan and the Mariana Islands in the Western Pacific.

They played a vital role in tribal warfare—blessing warriors before battle by channeling energy from the land, sea, & sky, and healing the wounded with natural remedies drawn from the islands and ocean.

At MAKANAS®, we continue this ancestral tradition. Inspired by their wisdom, our all-natural healing ointment is crafted to revive the spirit of the Pacific and bring the power of nature’s remedies into the modern world.

The word "Tattoo" derives from the native Polynesian word "Tatau." Pacific Islanders invented this art.  This form of expression has forever been deeply embedded into our culture and heritage as Pacific Islanders. This art form was not only an integral part of our identity… but a ritual we long held sacred since the dawn of time. It was a right of passage for our young - in becoming a man, a celebration of life for our women, a sign of rank and social status for our chiefs and leaders, and most importantly it served as “spiritual battle armor” for our warriors.
